    Cottons are the economic plants that grow in the tropical clay and sand mixed soil. Plants prefer an open area. Cotton fabrics are easily absorb moisture, so it is suitable for making garment in the tropical country because cotton absorbs moisture then releases as vapors one feels cool wearing cotton fabric.

     Planting of cottons begins during in the month of May - June or July - August, depending on the climate of the region. Rainy season is the best for planting. The harvesting can be done in November and December when the pots are ripen and cracked open. The villagers usually plant cottons at the same time they plant rice. The maturity of cottons takes 6 to 7 months. Every family can grow cotton to be used for everyday garment making.

     The cottons grow mostly in Leuy, Petchaboon, NakhonSawan, Phitchit, Lopbury, Prajinbury, Sukhothai, Petchabury, Nakorn Ratchasima and Kanchanabury Provinces. Parts of cottons that can be used are : flowers, skins, seeds and the fiber fluff. Cotton flowers have white fluffy fiber that used for fabric making for century. Nowaday cottons are used for the homespun industry.

    There are many kinds of cotton from the local specie, which has smaller brown pot. The fiber is shorter than usually and for local wearing. The import variety of cottons are for the factory fabric production.
